While we sit back and wait on the federal government to address the issue of illegal immigration, our communities are being burdened with undocumented workers. The cost of this will eventually hit the pocketbooks of local tax payers. I have met with the leaders of law enforcement, education, and our local hospitals concerning solutions to address this ever-growing problem. Our courts need better ways to identify people who are here illegally, our hospitals need better ways to cover the cost of the uninsured, and our schools need better funding for our English language learners. In Forest elementary school alone 40% of the students are Hispanic, and 30% of them cannot speak English. This places a huge burden on our teachers and schools.
